You must be familiar with the media rules and guidelines before uploading. A summary of the most important points on those guidelines follow. Most images found on the internet are unsuitable for uploading to AEW. As a general rule of thumb, if you did not create the file yourself, and there is no evidence that the file was released under a public copyright license, it is not suitable. If you created the file yourself, you must choose a free license under the "License" dropdown. Examples of licenses we accept are CC BY 4.0 and CC BY SA 4.0. However, there are other choices. If you did not create the file yourself, but the file was made available under a suitable public copyright license, you must ensure that any possible uses on AEW will not infringe any restrictions that the license imposes. You must attribute the file's author if the license calls for it, including adding a URL to its original location if that is applicable. Images must be on topic, unless it is for use in your own userspace. If the latter is applicable, you may only upload ten off-topic images per calendar year.

To include a file in a page, use a link in one of the following forms:

• [[File:File.jpg]] to use the full version of the file
• [[File:File.png|200px|thumb|left|alt text]] to use a 200 pixel wide rendition in a box in the left margin with "alt text" as description
• [[Media:File.ogg]] for directly linking to the file without displaying the file
