This category lists all Western Digital drives that are members of the WD Marvell family Avalon C5. This family is characterised by HGST Ultrastar HDAs but Western Digital firmware, RN, WWN and spindle motor, similar to the Toshiba DT02 and P300 SMR drives (which have Hitachi Deskstar HDAs but Toshiba firmware, WWN and spindle motor). Compared to Avalon CR, this family can hold the full five platters. It was created in response to the discovery that various "5400 RPM Class" hard drives were actually throttled 7,200 RPM drives. Thus, Avalon C5 drives were created as a true 5,640 RPM drive replacement for such models after they were altered to once again report 7,200 RPM. They are the largest CMR 5,400 RPM class hard drive from any manufacturer.
