This category lists all HGST drives that are members of the HGST ARM family Vela-AP. Vela-AP succeeds the previous Aries-HC8 family, eliminating the need for helium and reducing the number of platters. Like many HGST families, models from this family were sold with reduced sequential performance as "5,400 RPM Class" models in families that traditionally used 5,400 RPM spindle speed. When discovered, Western Digital abandoned the practice, first by no longer reporting a false 5,400 RPM speed, even though the reduced performance was still kept, and later by introducing a new native 5,640 RPM spindle speed family called Avalon C5, which uses Vela-AP's HDA but with Western Digital firmware.
