Australian Enthusiasts Wiki:Manual of Style/Hard drive product families
This is the recommended style guide to follow when creating hard drive product family articles, for example, Toshiba P300.
Title[edit source]
The article title should be the manufacturer, followed by the official title of the family. Be as specific as possible; a full Seagate Barracuda article isn't warranted, but a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 one is.
If a more specific family name is not available, yet many prior families exist, try prepending a distinguishing feature or platform codename in brackets. For example, Seagate Pipeline HD (Advanced Format) or Seagate Momentus (Cameron).
Good | Bad | Explanation |
---|---|---|
Seagate Momentus (Cameron) | Seagate Momentus | Too vague; there are many Seagate Momentus families. |
Seagate Momentus 5400.7 | While a catchy name, it is not an official one. Try to avoid unofficial names unless there really isn't a better choice, and even then, it must be in brackets as a disambiguator. | |
IBM Deskstar 75GXP | IBM Deskstar | Too vague; there are many IBM Deskstar drives, as well as Hitachi made ones. |
IBM Deathstar | Again, an unofficial name. |
Infobox[edit source]
As with the majority of articles, hard drive models should include an infobox that specify key details such as spindle speed, capacity and form factor. For more information, see Template:Infobox hard drive. If you have them, please upload two images; an image of a member drive's entire top label (give priority to images with uncensored serial numbers), and a screenshot of a hard drive SMART attribute viewer such as CrystalDiskInfo with all SMART attributes visible (please drag down the box to expand your CDI view, for example).
If images of a specific hard drive model are not available, then please use images from a mechanically related family.
History[edit source]
If warranted, write a subsection detailing the drive model's history, including what it replaced and its discontinuation, if applicable.
