Australian Enthusiasts Wiki:Upgrade policy
Freosan Studios, the host of Australian Enthusiasts Wiki, strives to take all steps necessary to ensure all the latest software is available to our users.
We have devised the following upgrade policy which lays down how we will upgrade our software.
Maintenance breaks
Upgrades can only happen during a maintenance break. When this happens, the entire Freosan Studios website, including wikis, will be shut down for upgrades. We will always announce a maintenance break fourteen (14) days before it occurs, with an accompanying sitenotice for wikis.
MediaWiki
Australian Enthusists Wiki is currently running on MediaWiki version 1.39.10.
Australian Enthusiasts Wiki will be updated to the latest MediaWiki LTS version, which is released every two years. Minor upgrades will be applied as soon as possible, with downtime being announced at least three days before the upgrade. Major upgrades will take longer to vet and will have a longer announcement before downtime.
PHP
Knowing that outdated PHP versions are a huge detractor on the open web, we pledge that we will update our PHP version to the latest supported by all our dependencies. Currently, PHP 8.0 is out, but since MediaWiki requires 7.4, we cannot upgrade yet, but we will strive to do so as soon as we have confirmation of support.
MariaDB
MariaDB is to be upgraded simultaneously with PHP; every two months.
Extensions
Extensions, due to their quantity, are difficult to keep upgraded. You can notify us of a major feature change in an extension, and we will upgrade that extension during the bimonthly maintenance break.
