This category lists all Western Digital drives that are members of the WD Marvell family Tornado 2D. It is similar to the overarching family Tornado, except limited to two platters rather than three. It succeeds the previous Hawk, Hawk 2, Buccaneer and Raider, increasing the density to 160 GB per platter and adding ramp loading. Tornado 2D was only available on SATA 2.5 drives; Tornado PATA is identical to Tornado 2D in most respects, but does use the older PATA standard. Tornado 2D, like most Tornado family drives, introduced a brand new look for multi-platter HDAs, which would continue with minor modifications until the Apollo family, and also introduced ramp loading to 3.5" Western Digital drives for the first time.
